Based on a project by architects Zoltán Balint and Lajos Jámbor from Budapest, Hungary, it was built in 1914 – 1916. The two-winged building extended by a third wing in the second half of the 1960s is complemented with a massive tower on the north. The material used in the construction has a strong aesthetic function. The grey unfinished stone extending from the foundations to the first floor is in contrast with the geometric adornments created by laying red bricks on white plaster. The building was originally built to house a Hungarian grammar school, but with the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic, Slovak language was taught there. The new educational institution adopted the name of Michal Miloslav Hodža and in the same historical premises it still prepares its students for university studies.
