The life size sandstone statue of the poet Janko Kráľ is located near the Church of St Nicholas on the Námestie Osloboditeľov Square (eng. Liberators Square). It is the work of academic sculptor Ladislav Pollák.
Janko Kráľ (1822 Liptovský Mikuláš - 1876 Zlaté Moravce)
The poetry of the great poet-rebel is very emotional, full of revolutionary views. Although he was a loner, he often wandered among the Slovak people, was interested in their difficult destinies that he lived deeply with them. He also went to prison for revolting the nation and spreading revolutionary ideas. He worked as a small civil servant, gradually becoming more and more isolated from public life and dying almost forgotten. To this day, it is not known exactly where his remains lie. You can learn about his life and work at the Janko Kráľ Museum, Liptovský Mikuláš.
