The life size sandstone statue of the nobleman Pongrác is located near the Church of St Nicholas on Námestie Osloboditeľov Square (eng. Liberators Square). It is the work of academic sculptor Ladislav Pollák.
The history of Liptovský Mikuláš was closely connected with the aristocratic Pongrác family. The statue depicts the nobleman Pongrác, at the request of whom, King Louis the Great allowed (around 1350) the market to be held every Tuesday, and since then St. Mikuláš (St. Nicholas) has been developing as a town.
