Gašpar Fejérpataky-Belopotocký Statue

The life size sandstone statue of the bookbinder, publisher and bookseller Gašpar Fejérpataky-Belopotocký is located next to the Church of St Nicholas on Námestie Osloboditeľov Square (eng. Liberators Square). It is the work of academic sculptor Ladislav Pollák.

Gašpar Fejérpataky-Belopotocký (1794 Paludza – 1874 Liptovský Mikuláš)

He distributed Slovak and Czech books, magazines and calendars almost throughout the Slovak-speaking territory of Hungary. In 1829 he founded the first public library in Liptovsky Mikulas, and a year later the first Slovak amateur theatre. He wrote textbooks, translated, was literary active. He founded a Sunday school for adults, where he also taught. He sent talented boys to Prague to study and learn crafts, among them the future well-known painter P. M. Bohúň.
