The Slovak Museum of Nature Protection and Speleology
Slovak Museum of Nature Protection and Speleology is the most attractive museum of Slovakia, and by its special orientation the only one in Slovakia. On the area of 1400 m2 you can find such valuable exhibits as a skeleton of a cave lion that belongs to the biggest one in Europe, a prehistoric cult mask, or a model of a meteorite.
In the Museum you can see world of the nature from underground to high mountains. Unique exhibits are placed in their natural ecosystems. Interactive permanent exhibitions offer many interesting experiences – you can get into the bear’s den or scramble through the cave. Exhibits are completed by light and sound effects, and you feel as to be in the forest. You can hear bird song, marmot whistle, or wolf howl. In the attic there are presented various free time and economic activities of the man – beekeeping, fishery, sheep breeding, skiing, mountain rescue, or you can entry to the Rainer’s Cottage, the oldest one in the High Tatra Mts.
Speleological exposition with beautiful dripstones is situated in the basement. It offers complex information about caves and speleology. You can gain knowledge of origin and development of the caves, cave filling, archaeological findings, historical facts as well as work of speleologists.
From the lookout tower
there is a view at panorama of the Low Tatras Mts., the Western Tatras Mts., the Greater Fatra Mts., and the Chočské Hills.
